Raytracing

Back in about 1994, I was working with some other people over Internet on an electronic gaming magazine called Intelligent Gamer (which went on to become a print magazine. Not sure if it's still around.) In search of a cool logo for our mag, I checked out the comp.graphics.raytracing group and asked if someone would help me and design a raytraced logo.

Well, that did get done, but I also kept reading the group, wondering how I could make these great images. After a while, I learned about Povray, a freeware raytracer that was used by most people.

I really got into Povray and raytracing for a while. I started a monthly raytracing competition that got way bigger than I had expected, which led me to hand it off to people with more time and desire to make it big. They have done a great job (and I still help a little bit :) and now it's become the Internet RayTracing Competition (IRTC). A CD-ROM has been released with the contents of the first year of this new competition, which is well worth buying. I can't take much credit for the current great status of the IRTC, but I did design the logo, and I did get the whole thing started back in '94. So I've done a little. :)

Another CD I helped with in a small was is the Official Pov-Ray CDROM. I wrote a multimedia tutorial in Authorware Professional that lets beginners learn the concepts of raytracing and how to use Pov-Ray quickly and easily. The Pov-Ray CDROM is definitely worth buying.

Below is a sampling of some of the images I've created - in no specific order.
